S-Tier Ignite Films 4K. The 1953 sci-fi classic, possibly sourced from the last surviving print. Ignite had some packaging problems with slipcovers taped directly to cases in a way that damages the cardboard, and shipping was slow. It's been running about $44 USD, with 20% off occasionally from Ignite's own store.

The residents of San Francisco are becoming drone-like shadows of their former selves, and as the phenomenon spreads, two Department of Health workers uncover the horrifying truth.
Arrow Video · 4K + Blu-ray
dir. Tobe Hooper
Imprint Films announced a new 4K at about $85 USD with a book-style package. Arrow already put out an S-Tier disc so collectors are weighing whether the extras justify owning two copies of the same Tobe Hooper vampire movie.
dir. Jordan Peele
S-Tier Universal 4K. Jordan Peele's alien horror, shot on a mix of 65mm and IMAX 65mm film. The same cinematographer and format combo used on Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer. The 4K disc scores a 4.5, and the setting really benefits from the format. The giant 4K Ultra HD logo on the case cover was widely mocked.
Universal Pictures · 4K + Blu-ray

S-Tier Arrow Video 4K. The 2008 Viking sci-fi film with no relevant collector discussion around the disc.
dir. John McTiernan
S-Tier 20th Century Studios 4K. McTiernan's sci-fi action classic. The 4-movie pack from Amazon came in a DVD case for some reason, which confused everyone. The Prey steelbook from Best Buy was a big deal since Disney rarely puts streaming-only films on disc. Collectors are building Predator steelbook shelves across all five films.
20th Century Studios · 4K + Blu-ray
dir. Dan Trachtenberg
S-Tier Disney 4K with a 4.5 score. The Predator prequel that was a streaming exclusive nobody expected to get a physical release. The Comanche dub is included, and collectors consider it a special extra. Dan Trachtenberg is now 3 for 3 with fans.
Walt Disney Studios · 4K + Blu-ray
dir. M. Night Shyamalan
The HMV steelbook misspelled Shyamalan's name on the cover, which is both hilarious and telling. The original steelbook with metallic finish and debossed artwork is a $200 USD grail that people refuse to sell. The standard release artwork is universally hated. The film itself gets strong collector affection, and the S-Tier Disney 4K with archival features is well-stocked.
dir. John Carpenter
Sony S-Tier 4K. One of the more under-appreciated John Carpenter films, with Jeff Bridges playing an alien on a road trip across America. The Columbia Classics box set originally included this, and Sony releasing a standalone steelbook is good news for people who didn't want to buy the whole set. Target's buy 2 get 1 free deal has brought the price down to around $30 USD.
Sony Pictures · 4K + Blu-ray
dir. Robert Rodriguez
When some very creepy things start happening around school, the kids at Herrington High make the chilling discovery that confirms their worst suspicions: their teachers really are from another planet!

dir. Steven Spielberg
A-Tier Sony 4K. Spielberg's UFO film. The collectors edition with the different cuts is the better option. Multiple packaging options exist but the discs are the same.
dir. Neill Blomkamp
A-Tier Sony 4K. Neill Blomkamp's Johannesburg sci-fi. The documentary-style handheld gains detail at 4K.
A-Tier Universal 4K. Spielberg's alien. The transfer exists in multiple packaging options with the same disc.
dir. Chloé Zhao
The Eternals are a team of ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. When an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows, they are forced to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants.
dir. Roland Emmerich
A-Tier 20th Century Studios 4K. Will Smith blows up aliens on the Fourth of July. This was one of the earlier 4K releases back in 2016, so the scan shows its age compared to newer remasters. Steelbooks still move for decent money secondhand, which says something about the film's staying power with collectors.
dir. Alex Cox
Criterion 4K. The conversation about what the film is really about produced one of the best single-sentence readings of any film on the internet. One of those discs where some buyers reported defective copies, but the transfer itself is clean once you get a good pressing. The film stock is fine-grained enough that it looks pristine in 4K.

Amazon MGM still has not put up a 4K preorder and collectors are getting loud about it. French tracker 4k-ultra-hd.fr is showing a Q3 2026 window and hinting at a steelbook, which lines up with community speculation of a summer release, but nothing is confirmed yet. Blu-ray.com's 4K product shell is still empty.
