Monster/Creature Feature movies available on 4K Blu-ray, ranked by transfer quality.
dir. Ridley Scott
The transfer finally gets the color timing right after years of home video versions that never matched the theatrical. Looks really good on an OLED. The Aliens 4K got hit with AI upscaling controversy, but the original Alien's transfer is clean. The Filmarena steelbook is the collector's item if you can find one, otherwise the standard 4K is the same disc.
20th Century Studios · 4K + Blu-ray

S-Tier Disney 4K. The transfer looks really good on the claustrophobic station interiors and the xenomorph practical effects gain resolution in 4K. A limited edition steelbook is available through Rare Waves.
Walt Disney Studios · 4K + Blu-ray

Warner Bros. · 4K + Blu-ray
dir. Fred Dekker
S-Tier Scream Factory 4K. Fred Dekker's 1986 alien slug horror comedy. It only includes the director's cut, which upset some people who wanted the theatrical. People who held off on the Blu-ray were glad they waited. There was a subtitle error reported on the Shout Factory disc.

Earl Bassett's celebrity after defeating the Graboid attack against the town of Perfection has proved short-lived, until he's recruited by a Mexican oil company whose workers have found more than they bargained for under the soil.
dir. John Krasinski
A-Tier Paramount 4K. The silence in this film makes the Atmos mix one of the more interesting home theater experiences you can have. Every creak and footstep matters. The 4K disc has been a popular entry point for people getting into the format.
Steelbook showed up in a haul. The Krasinski monster sequels are better on disc than streaming suggests because the sound design is half the film and compression eats it.
Paramount Pictures · Steelbook
dir. Joe D'Amato

dir. Tod Browning
A-Tier Universal 4K. Bela Lugosi's Dracula. Part of the Universal Monsters catalog on 4K. The black-and-white transfer is clean.

Vinegar Syndrome · 4K + Blu-ray
dir. Guillermo del Toro
A-Tier Universal Pictures 4K. Coming 2026 through Criterion.
dir. Steven Spielberg
A-Tier Universal 4K. Considered one of the best 4K remasters from the 70s, and the contrast to how badly the original Star Wars films have been treated is a favorite collector talking point. The ocean photography and Amity night scenes look fantastic on a modern display.
dir. Jeannot Szwarc
Police chief Brody must protect the citizens of Amity after a second monstrous shark begins terrorizing the waters.
dir. Joe Johnston
A-Tier Universal 4K. The weakest Jurassic Park, but Universal's new Dolby Vision remaster actually fixed the color timing issues from the original 4K. The old transfer had a weird tan cast that the new version corrected. There's debate about whether the new Atmos remix is too heavy-handed compared to the original DTS-X mix. The remastered disc was $14.99 USD on Amazon pre-order, which is basically impulse territory.

When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.
dir. Ben Wheatley
Warner 4K. Ben Wheatley took over directing from Jon Turteltaub for the sequel. The underwater VFX benefit from HDR but the film itself split audiences. Available cheap on sale and pairs with the original Meg 4K.
A-Tier Scream Factory 4K. Alexandre Aja's 2010 piranha remake. The 3D gimmick doesn't translate but the gore effects and the Elisabeth Shue lead performance make the film worth owning.
dir. Andrzej Żuławski
A-Tier Second Sight Films 4K. Zulawski's 1981 horror with Isabelle Adjani. The Second Sight limited edition sold out at OrbitDVD within hours. There are questions about the quality of different 4K transfers, since the French version had poor gamma and an extreme blue push. Second Sight's version and the Umbrella release are the ones collectors are weighing.
dir. Shinji Higuchi, Hideaki Anno
The US 4K announcement was massive. People who had just imported the Japanese version without English subs immediately regretted it. The steelbook, standard, and deluxe collector's edition all sold well, with the deluxe being the only version that includes the black and white cut. People kept trying to get Criterion to release it, but the existing editions already cover every angle. Top 4 Godzilla films in 4K is now possible with this, Godzilla (1954), Godzilla Minus One, and the Legendary MonsterVerse entries.
dir. Roger Donaldson
88 Films A-Tier 4K. The boutique packaging from 88 Films landed well, and the disc looks good for a mid-90s sci-fi horror title. Collector interest is light but the people who own it seem happy with the release.

Malcolm, his paleontologist ladylove and a wildlife videographer join an expedition to document the lethal lizards' natural behavior in this action-packed thriller.
dir. John Carpenter
Carpenter's practical effects hold up better than most modern CGI and the Universal 4K is A-Tier, though the missing Dolby Vision is the one complaint collectors have. Signed copies from convention appearances are circulating and the Titans of Cult edition has been restocking through Books-a-Million.

Warner 4K with a steelbook option that collectors picked up for the Atmos mix and the underwater sequences. The HDR adds depth to the ocean scenes. Meg 2 is also on 4K from Warner if you want both.
dir. James Cameron
C-Tier from 20th Century Studios, which is a sore spot for a film this good. The 4K exists and people buy it, but the conversation is always about when someone will do a proper restoration. Cameron in 4K should look better than this.
20th Century Studios · Blu-ray
C-Tier StudioCanal 4K. Stephen King anthology with a young Drew Barrymore. The source is what it is.
dir. James L. Conway
Otherworldly creatures inhabit the bootlegging tunnels underneath a small town mining community, and they kill any of the townsfolk who invade their home.
