Ripping Drives
The drives 4K Blu-ray collectors use to rip discs. Sorted by ease of setup. FAQ
UHD-capable drives have gotten harder to find. Pioneer exited the optical drive business in mid-2025, and the internal LG drives collectors relied on for years are out of production. What's left are slim external LG drives (BP60NB10, BP50NB40) that need a firmware flash, the ASUS BW-16D1HT for desktop users, and the Verbatim 43888 when it's in stock. All of them work well once set up. If you don't want to flash firmware yourself, community-trusted sellers like Billycar11 (US), BluntmanUHD (Canada), and MartyMcNuts (AU/NZ) sell pre-flashed drives that work out of the box.
Check firmware before buying.
Drives sold on Amazon may ship with newer firmware that can't be flashed. The Verbatim 43888 switched from Pioneer to LG internals in mid-2025 without changing the model number. Buy from a verified source when possible.
