46 years on, Crazy Ralph still can't talk Annie out of the truck

May 9, 2026

Crazy Ralph tells Annie the camp has a death curse and she gets in the truck. Gotta respect her commitment to the summer gig.

46 years to the day, May 9th 1980, Friday the 13th was released in US theatres. Siskel and Ebert gave it two thumbs down, and Siskel published the killer reveal in his review on purpose. The mainstream press called it a Halloween rip-off. Over 1,000 cinemas had crowds screaming and fainting at Tom Savini’s effects. The final shot, with decayed young Jason lunging out of the calm lake, hit movie goers hard, it was quite a thing at the time. It made $40 million domestic on a $550,000 budget.

Paramount’s 2022 release with Dolby Vision is the first home 4K version and the Limited Edition Steelbook came out October 2023.
