2 William H. Macy movies from the 2000s on 4K Blu-ray, ranked S to D by transfer quality.
dir. Joe Johnston
A-Tier Universal 4K. The weakest Jurassic Park, but Universal's new Dolby Vision remaster actually fixed the color timing issues from the original 4K. The old transfer had a weird tan cast that the new version corrected. There's debate about whether the new Atmos remix is too heavy-handed compared to the original DTS-X mix. The remastered disc was $14.99 USD on Amazon pre-order, which is basically impulse territory.

Lynch shot Inland Empire on a Sony PD150 in standard definition in 2006, intentionally lo-fi and grainy. Criterion's 2023 Blu-ray drew the predictable "no 4K?" complaints from people who didn't read about the source material. The 4K UHD is now on the way from Criterion, sourced from the same Lynch-supervised remaster, with no release date set. It will be an upscale of a digital format that was already low-resolution when it was new. The 4K disc is a completist purchase.
