Gremlins films available on 4K UHD, ranked by transfer quality.

Warner owns both films. The 1984 original got a fresh 35mm scan in 2019 and lands S-Tier on transfer, with the catch that the disc is HDR10 only and the framing gets tightened from 1.85 to 1.78. Gremlins 2 has been Blu-ray-only since 2011, with @dawnofthediscs floating a 4K UHD on Instagram in January 2026. Joe Dante then surfaced a 2h 35m assembly cut of the original at a closed-group screening on May 1, 2026, with the Gremlins 3 writers in attendance. A reissue of the original paired with a Gremlins 2 4K in a boxset timed to Gremlins 3 (2027) is the cleanest way both archival events fit together.

Warner scanned the original 35mm camera negative at 4K for the 2019 release, and John Hora's cinematography finally has its candy reds and cobalt blues back. The disc is HDR10 only with no Dolby Vision, the aspect is 1.78:1 instead of the theatrical 1.85, and the supplements are a 2009 Blu-ray carryover.

@dawnofthediscs floated a 4K UHD on Instagram in January 2026 with no label confirmation, no street date, and no SKU. Joe Dante then surfaced a 2h 35m assembly cut of the original Gremlins at a closed-group screening on May 1, 2026, with the Gremlins 3 writers in attendance. A reissue of the original paired with a Gremlins 2 4K in a boxset timed to Gremlins 3 (2027) is the most coherent way both archival events fit together. The 2011 Warner Blu-ray is currently the only HD option for Gremlins 2.
