Evil Dead 4K steelbooks

April 30, 2026

Five Evil Dead films, six labels, and not a single matched steelbook between them. Building a matched shelf for this franchise takes an upcoming pre-order, a Best Buy hunt, an import from Germany, and a secondary-market dig.

The films

The Evil Dead (1981) is Sam Raimi’s $400,000 Tennessee cabin debut. Bruce Campbell, the Necronomicon, the deadites, and a 16mm camera that doesn’t sit still for a single shot.

Evil Dead II (1987) is the soft-reboot sequel that turned the franchise into slapstick splatter. Sam Raimi tightened the camera work, gave Ash a chainsaw, and launched the Tomandandy gore-gag tradition.

Army of Darkness (1992) is the medieval third entry that pivoted to comedy fully. Ash in 1300 AD, the Necronomicon, the Deadite army, and “klaatu barada nikto.”

Evil Dead (2013) is Fede Álvarez’s reboot that traded Raimi’s slapstick for relentless body horror. Same cabin, same book, much darker tone.

Evil Dead Rise (2023) is Lee Cronin’s Los Angeles apartment-complex entry. Ash is gone, the cabin is gone, and the Necronomicon arrives in the elevator shaft.

The steelbooks

The Evil Dead franchise has steelbooks scattered across every label that ever held the rights. Sony’s 45th Anniversary SteelBook for the 1981 original ships in July 2026 with the Dolby Vision regrade and a documentary-heavy second disc. Lionsgate’s Best Buy double-feature SteelBook remains the cleanest way to pair Evil Dead 1 and 2 in steel domestically. StudioCanal’s German Uncut Evil Dead II SteelBook is the import you want for Sam Raimi’s sequel since Lionsgate never made an American one. Scream Factory’s Army of Darkness Limited Edition SteelBook from 2022 covers the medieval entry, and their 2024 Evil Dead 2013 SteelBook (with both theatrical and unrated cuts) plus a March 2025 Canadian reissue cover the Álvarez reboot. Evil Dead Rise has Warner steelbooks in two regions plus a fresh Arrow Limited Edition that just landed.

Sony 45th Anniversary SteelBook (July 7 2026)

The new steelbook for the original. Sony picked up the rights from Lionsgate and put together a Dolby Vision/HDR presentation in the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio with English DTS-HD MA 5.1 and the original 2.0 surround mix. The second disc carries the legacy Raimi/Tapert/Campbell commentary plus two new long-form documentaries, the Picture-in-Picture Undying Legacy track, and the cutting-room and drive-in featurettes that have been bouncing across releases since the Anchor Bay days. Sony announced this on April 29 2026 for a July 7 2026 street date; retailer pre-orders aren’t live yet, watch the blu-ray.com listing for when Amazon and Best Buy open theirs.

Lionsgate Best Buy Exclusive Evil Dead 1 and 2 SteelBook (2020)

Released back when Lionsgate still held the original. Two films in one steelbook with an outer slipcover, exclusive to Best Buy, and the cleanest domestic way to get both films in steel. Disc content matches the Lionsgate standalone 4Ks for both films. Restocks at Best Buy intermittently and surfaces on the secondary market when retail is dry.

StudioCanal Germany Evil Dead II Limited Edition SteelBook (2018)

The German Uncut release sold under the Tanz der Teufel 2 title. StudioCanal had the international rights and put out a region-free 4K SteelBook with English DTS-HD audio retained alongside the German tracks, plus the Uncut version that German collectors had been chasing since the original VHS censorship era. This is the SteelBook for Evil Dead II since Lionsgate’s US 4K from 2021 came in a keep case with a slipcover and never got a steelbook variant.

Scream Factory Army of Darkness Limited Edition SteelBook (October 2022)

Scream Factory’s Limited Edition SteelBook ships the same four-disc set as the regular Collector’s Edition keep case in steel. New 4K scan of the original camera negative approved by Sam Raimi, DP Bill Pope, and editor Bob Murawski, plus all three cuts (theatrical, director, TV) and the Medieval Times feature-length making-of doc. The Shout Factory direct-store variant adds an enamel pin and an exclusive poster for collectors who buy from Shout’s site. Both pressings are OOP in 2026 and surface on the secondary market in the $50-80 USD range.

Scream Factory Evil Dead 2013 Limited Edition SteelBook (August 2024)

Scream Factory’s August 2024 SteelBook is the better Álvarez disc. Both the theatrical cut (HDR10) and the unrated cut (Dolby Vision) ship on the same disc with separate Sony 4K transfers, the cast/director commentary from the original 2022 Collector’s Edition, and the full set of EPK featurettes. A Walmart Exclusive SteelBook variant and a Canadian SteelBook reissue both shipped in March 2025 with the same disc and different exterior art, useful for collectors who want the alt-cover or who can’t find the original 2024 pressing in stock.

Warner Bros. Evil Dead Rise Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook (2023)

The Best Buy US exclusive shipped alongside the wide retail Warner release in October 2023 at $34.99 USD. Single 4K UHD + Blu-ray, same disc content as the standard release. Best Buy’s exclusivity window has lapsed and the steelbook has surfaced on the secondary market periodically.

Warner Bros. Germany Evil Dead Rise SteelBook (2023)

The German market gets a region-free 4K SteelBook with English and German Dolby Atmos. Same disc as the US wide release. Imports through Amazon DE without hassle.

Arrow Video Evil Dead Rise Limited Edition (January 2026)

Arrow’s Limited Edition is the most recent Evil Dead Rise release. Rigid slipcase, hardback book, art cards, and new bonus material that doesn’t appear on the Warner disc. Not a steelbook, but worth flagging for anyone tracking the Rise releases since this is where the new content lives now.

The full shelf

Every Evil Dead film now exists on a 4K steelbook somewhere. That’s a recent development; the Álvarez reboot only got its SteelBook in August 2024 and the original’s SteelBook just got announced in April 2026. A complete steel shelf for this franchise was not possible eighteen months ago.

The bottom line

Watch the Sony 45th Anniversary SteelBook listing for when retailer pre-orders open, and grab the Lionsgate Best Buy double-feature SteelBook for Evil Dead 1 and 2 in matched packaging. Import the StudioCanal German Uncut Evil Dead II SteelBook if you want II’s chainsaw arm in steel. Hunt the Scream Factory Army of Darkness SteelBook on the secondary market while prices are still under $80 USD. The Scream Factory Evil Dead 2013 SteelBook is the right Álvarez disc, both cuts on one piece of steel. The two Warner Evil Dead Rise steelbooks pick themselves on regional preference. Skip the Arrow Rise Limited Edition only if you don’t care about the new bonus material; collectors who do should grab it before the pressing runs out.
