Four 4K Covers Worth Keeping Face-Out

April 26, 2026

Four 4K releases worth attention this year were each illustrated by a named artist. The cover is what the price is buying.

Arrow, StudioCanal, and the labels behind retailer-exclusive steelbooks have been commissioning illustrators who would normally land studio campaigns and gallery print runs. The four below are some of the strongest 2025 and 2026 commissions on physical media.

Dark City (Arrow Limited Edition, 2025)

Doug John Miller is an architect-turned-illustrator who studied at UCL’s Bartlett School (SOM Foundation Fellowship, Bartlett Medal, RIBA Donaldson Medal) and now teaches there part time. His editorial clients include The New York Times, Wired, Empire, and Pitchfork, and Netflix has hired him for film concept design directly with directors. For a film whose plot is the city as a mechanism, an architect drawing the cover is not a coincidence.

The Warriors (Arrow 4K, 2024)

Laurie Greasley works out of Scotland, came up through the Kent Institute of Art and Design, and has been a professional illustrator since 2014. His client list runs through Disney, Pixar, Marvel, DC, Lucasfilm, Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount, Legendary, and the major game studios. He cites Geoff Darrow, Moebius, and Katsuhiro Otomo as influences, and his process is pencil and ink on bristol board scanned and coloured in Photoshop. Of the dozen or so regional Warriors SKUs out there, only the Arrow editions carry the Greasley sleeve.

Highlander (StudioCanal 40th Anniversary, June 29, 2026)

Sophie Bland is StudioCanal UK’s senior graphic designer, in-house since 2018 after stints at Heat and Kerrang. Her portfolio at the label includes the official and alternative artwork for Saint Maud, Paddington, The Life of Chuck, and The Wicker Man. The Highlander 40th Anniversary stacks Connor MacLeod, Ramirez, the Kurgan, and the lone immortal into a single composition with electric blue lightning forking down the middle. A removable O-ring takes the title text off so the painting can hang clean. Pre-orders open at Amazon UK and Zavvi at £40.

Alien Romulus (20th Century Studios UK Limited Edition Steelbook, April 20, 2026)

Matt Ferguson works out of Sheffield, co-founded Vice Press, and has been doing official campaign and home-video art for Marvel since 2012, plus Star Wars anniversaries and the Dune (2021) campaign. His Alien Romulus illustration places the 2024 follow-up firmly inside the Alien visual language with bold silhouettes and dramatic lighting. The Ferguson reissues release across the UK, France, and Finland in April 2026. An earlier December 2024 Zavvi UK steelbook used stock photographic art instead.

The bottom line

Miller draws architecture in motion, Greasley draws panels collapsed into a single moment, Bland draws illustrated theatre, Ferguson draws classical horror geometry. Four illustrators, four films, four covers worth keeping face-out on the shelf.
