Ti West’s slasher trilogy arrived on 4K in pieces over three years. A24 put X out first in 2022, Capelight and Turbine ran the import beat for the next two years, Lionsgate shipped the US MaXXXine in 2024, and then in late 2025 Second Sight and A24 both dropped finished editions within weeks of each other. The result is six different 4K SKUs across three films and one boxset.
The films
X (2022) is Ti West’s 1979-set slasher about a porn shoot at a Texas farm where the elderly hosts have their own relationship to youth and attention. Mia Goth plays both Maxine, the ambitious lead, and Pearl, the ancient woman who watches her from the farmhouse.
Pearl (2022) is the Technicolor prequel shot back-to-back with X. Pearl as a young woman in 1918, trapped on the family farm tending to her ailing father under her devout mother’s watch, fantasizing her way out and into violence. Mia Goth co-wrote the screenplay and carries the film entirely.
MaXXXine (2024) puts Maxine Minx in 1985 Los Angeles, finally getting her big break in mainstream movies while a killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood and a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.
The collector's problem
The trilogy doesn’t fit one shelf cleanly. Second Sight gave Pearl and MaXXXine the boutique limited-edition treatment in November 2025 but didn’t release X. A24 shipped the complete X Trilogy boxset for $100 USD a month earlier, but its Pearl and MaXXXine discs match the existing US standalones, with no new content beyond a single Tyler Bates featurette.
Second Sight UK Pearl Limited Edition (November 2025)
The most feature-loaded Pearl, with new bonus content that doesn’t exist on any other release.
Second Sight UK MaXXXine Limited Edition (November 2025)
Almost two hours of new interviews and a new commentary make this the only MaXXXine disc with bonus material beyond the Lionsgate set.
A24 US X Standalone DigiPack (2022)
The X disc à la carte builders need, since Second Sight didn’t release X and this is where the trilogy’s only Ti West-adjacent commentary lives.
A24 US X Trilogy Boxset (October 2025)
The only domestic way to get all three films coordinated in one package, with a 64-page book and one boxset-exclusive Tyler Bates featurette.
A24 US Pearl Standalone DigiPack (2022)
The cheap domestic Pearl, fully replaced on features by the Second Sight Limited.
Lionsgate US MaXXXine (October 2024)
The original US MaXXXine 4K and the disc the A24 boxset reuses, minus the boxset’s one new Tyler Bates featurette.
Turbine Germany Pearl 4K SteelBook (November 2023)
The OOP German SteelBook collectors chased for two years before Second Sight existed, now an aesthetic and scarcity buy.
Capelight Germany X 4K Mediabook (September 2022)
A German Mediabook with two cover variants and a 24-page booklet.
Capelight Germany MaXXXine 4K SteelBook (2025)
The Lionsgate disc in a German SteelBook, with the same extras as the US release.
Midnight Factory Italy X 4K SteelBook (2022)
The only X SteelBook ever made, an Italian import for anyone who wants X in steel.
The artwork conversation
Second Sight’s Pearl slipcase by Thinh Dinh and MaXXXine slipcase by OC Agency Group are the matched set people point to. Both include six art cards that echo the slipcase artwork, giving Pearl and MaXXXine a coherent shelf presence.
A24 leans on the official theatrical poster art with the book as the main object.
The German imports use Lionsgate’s key art on steel or in mediabook form.
If aesthetic cohesion is the priority, the Second Sight pair is the only matched build.
The tier picture
All three films are S-Tier transfers per bestblurays. The verdict for Pearl and MaXXXine is the Second Sight UK 4K, and for X it’s the A24 US 4K.
No region or label is meaningfully better than another for transfer quality. Every release pulls from the same source master.
The bottom line
If you want one buy and to be done thinking about it, the A24 X Trilogy boxset is the answer, ideally on the Barnes and Noble 40% horror sale.
If you want the best discs on a features basis, the build is A24 US X standalone plus the Second Sight UK Limited Editions of Pearl and MaXXXine. Two imports, three hours of new content the boxset doesn’t have, higher total cost.
You can’t have both.. well, unless you buy them all. The boxset gets you all three films in one coordinated object, the Second Sight pair gets you the best Pearl and MaXXXine discs.
