Kino Lorber 4K dropping May 12 with a new scan from the original camera negative, Dolby Vision, and a Barry Sonnenfeld interview as the headline extra. DeVito directed this and it's one of his best. The reaction to the announcement has been warm, with people praising Kino for their recent run of 80s comedies on 4K. No reviews yet since it hasn't shipped, but the Kino track record with catalog titles has been strong. Pre-orders up at Diabolik and Unobstructed View for Canadian buyers.

Scream Factory did a steelbook at $45 USD which people thought was too much, and the price eventually dropped to $34.99 USD. The StudioCanal 4-pack has better color accuracy but zero special features, while Scream Factory's has Atmos but messed up the colors.

The Best Buy steelbook has better artwork if you want the premium version.

The Raft is everyone's favorite segment and ruined open water for kids who saw it on cable in the 90s. The Hitchhiker still has the line everyone quotes ("Thanks for the ride lady!"). The pressing went OOP once and came back on the Arrow site.

Arrow's 4K transfer is called a reference disc for the format in collector circles. The grain structure is preserved, the practical effects are still effective, and the ED-209 stop-motion pops in a way it never did on Blu-ray. The 4K actually reveals too much for some people, like RoboCop's rubber chin guard and plastic armor textures. The original Arrow LE Blu-ray owners felt burned when the 4K came in identical packaging shortly after.

Criterion's 4K is a new scan from the original camera negative, and the Dublin dinner party interiors have a warmth and texture to them that prior releases couldn't resolve. Huston directed this while he was dying, with Anjelica starring for her father, and the grain structure on that final snowfall scene is worth the price of the disc alone.

Oversized killer bug loose in a hospital, the kind of 50s-style monster movie that needs the new scan more than it needs the bonus features.

Paramount needs to redo this one without the grain reduction.
